Top Five Movies to Watch With Friends
For many, the holidays are a time spent with family and friends. However, after doing all the traditional “no school” activities like spending hours at a time on your phone, winter break can become a bit dull but watching movies can make it more fun. The following five movies are movies you can watch with friends to have fun over those last few days of break.
- The Fault in Our Stars, directed by Josh Boone
Rated 7.7 out of 10 on IMDb, The Fault in Our Stars is a movie about two teenage cancer patients who met at a support group, Hazel Grace Lancaster, played by Shailene Woodley, and Augustus Waters, played by Ansel Elgort. Both teens share a love of books written by Peter Van Houten. When Augustus gets invited to meet the author of Hazel’s favorite book, the two teens go on a journey to meet him.
- The Shining, directed by Stanley Kubrick
The Shining is a horror movie about Jack Torrance, played by Jack Nicholson. Jack is a writer who hopes to cure his writer’s block by becoming the winter caretaker of a hotel in Colorado. He brings his son Danny, who has psychic visions, and his wife Wendy. Continuing to struggle with his writer’s block, Jack discovers the hotel has a dark past, and turns to homicidal actions towards his wife and son.
- Forrest Gump, directed by Robert Zemeckis
This is a movie that follows a man named Forrest Gump, played by Tom Hanks, with an I.Q. of 75 through many historical events, such as the Vietnam war, the Watergate scandal, and several presidencies. Although Gump has a less than average I.Q, he doesn’t let that stop him from following his dreams and believing that negative events can lead to good things in life.
- The Maze Runner Series, directed by Wes Ball
The Maze Runner series is comprised of three movies. The Maze Runner, the first movie, is about a teen boy named Thomas, played by Dylan O’Brien. Thomas is taken by a corporation and moved to a place called the Glade, with no memory of his previous life. Thomas quickly acclimates to life in the Glade and soon becomes a “Runner” one of the boys who attempts to find a way out of the constantly varied maze, complete with monsters and walls that close each night locking the boys either in the Glade, or in the maze. Soon after Thomas arrives at the Glade, Teresa, the first ever girl arrives. Working together, Thomas and Teresa try to convince the others that they know the way out of the maze.
- Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, directed by Adam McKay
Talladega Nights is a comedy about a NASCAR driver named Ricky Bobby, played by Will Ferrell. He loses his fans, wealth, and wife when Jean Girard, French Formula One champ shows up and takes all the fame by winning race after race. Ricky Bobby must work with his estranged father to repair his reputation on the track and get his life going in the right direction again.
