Student council

As school starts, so does the planning for Student Council. Every Tuesday, Student Council meets to discuss upcoming events for the school year. This year Student Council is looking forward to planning events like Homecoming, Como Cow, spirit weeks, Courtwarming, and many more. Student Council also works with charities and non-profits within Columbia as well.

Currently, Student Council is focusing on homecoming. Last week, Student Council announced that this year’s Homecoming theme is ‘There’s No Place Like Homecoming’, which is inspired by The Wizard of Oz.

“I like how they make events and give us fun things to look forward to,” said an anonymous source. Student Council is also partnering with Rainbow House, a homeless shelter in Columbia. Because of their partnership, the homecoming court will be raising money for the non-profit through the food day hosted the Friday before Homecoming.

Student council is a student based club which is why Audrey Cornell, member of student council, recommends people to join. I love how involved it is with the school and how it is a student based club,” Cornell said.

Cornell also mentioned that student council is good for people who like to help make important and informed decisions about events Battle to partake in.

Student Council also takes pride in the different friendships you make throughout the club. “My favorite part about student council is how well we work together,”  Marissa Moore, a member of Student Council, said. “I think that we are all really close even though we only see each other once a week.”

She mentioned that the staff works together in individual groups to work on events and projects.
