Encore Drama Club
Giving students the opportunity to have fun
Are you an actor, techie, or enthusiastic theatre person? Then join the Encore Drama Club, which usually meets twice a month at 4:15p – 5:15p in room B106, where you’ll join Theatre teacher Myriah Araiza and other students in the building to discuss upcoming opportunities, play theatre games, and chat.
A game called Commercial is something new the Encore club has been trying this year. Each participant in the game has one minute to come up with a brand new idea for a product and “sell” it to the audience.
Student’s enjoy the games they spend most of their time playing, in order to practice their improv skills and to get to know one another.
“A lot of people really enjoy the game Chain Murder – which is a lot like Telephone, except you are pantomiming out the message, specifically, who is the murderer, where did the murder take place and what was the murder weapon?” Araiza, theatre teacher mentions.
Encore drama also offers induction into the International Thespian Society (ITS), an honors society for actors & technicians, through participation in our productions. Molly Fox, senior is the drama club and ITS president. She’s been a participant in drama club for 4 years and is also stage manager for vocal & performing arts productions at Battle.
“I love drama club because it gives everyone a chance to participate in fun games and interact with others who love theater on a smaller scale than performances. Not everyone likes performing on stage, so it’s nice to have an inclusive environment for everyone to be able to express themselves and participate in theater without having to be in front of a big audience” Fox says.
Members from theatre and student’s like Senior Ajrianna Bean who attends frequently, enjoys the time they spend together playing games and chatting, taking a break from school and having fun.
“Drama club is so fun and I’ve made a lot of friends here, I love the fun games we play, I also really love to act, so if you love to act and play some games, drama club is definitely for you” Bean said.
