Parking passes have undergone a considerable change from last year. In contrast to the rules of the 2023-2024 school year, parking passes are being enforced, according to administration.
Athletic and Activities Secretary Hannah Hanneken announced that after a two-week grace period that began at the beginning of this school year, the administrative team will be doing random checks consisting of searching for visible parking passes in parked vehicles. Vehicles parked without a parking pass will receive a sticker indicating their first warning. After receiving two warnings, the student will not be allowed to park in any campus parking lot.
Parking passes have been made free instead of $50, as in previous years. Ms. Hanneken explained the price change: “We are not hurting for parking like the other two high schools, and so we don’t feel like we need to charge.” She continued, “Not everyone can come up with that money.”
To receive a parking pass, students must complete a Google form requiring information such as a driver’s license, insurance, and plate number. This Google form is accessible via a link in the @battlespartans_stuco pages bio, or students can speak directly to Ms. Hanneken in Lower Administration, room D107 (Link Here).
After submitting the Google form and visiting Ms. Hanneken, the student will receive a parking pass with their vehicle’s specified number. Parking passes need to be visible from the outside of the vehicle, preferably hung from the rearview mirror; however, they can be placed on the dashboard as an alternative.
According to Ms. Jill Villasana, Stuco sponsor and teacher, for seniors who want to paint their parking spots, a couple of prerequisites need to be met. First, any senior who would like to paint a spot must have a valid BHS parking pass. Second, the design of the student’s choice must be submitted to and approved by Ms. Villasana prior to the painting date. Link to the Google form here. Ms. Villasana explained that “Designs must follow the BHS student code of conduct.” The design can be emailed to [email protected] or hand-delivered to her in room E102.
“As of right now we haven’t really fell on a date yet […]I’d say sometime after September 13.” said Ms. Villasana. She also explained that painting will only be allowed on the specified date, and only flat, water-based, exterior latex paint will be permitted, which can be found at any general hardware store. Brushes and rollers will be provided on-site and do not need to be purchased prior. For more information regarding senior painting, check the updates tab for the BHS 23-24 Students course on Schoology.
Seniors will also have to choose a spot before the paint date. This will be done by listing five spots a student would like to claim in order of preference. All spots, excluding handicapped and otherwise labeled are fair game, including previously painted spots from last year.
