On November 1 Battle Football played Ft. Zumwalt West in a win-or-go-home game in the first round of district play. Battle went into the game with a record of 1-8 and Ft. Zumwalt West went into the game with a 4-5 record. The Spartans had gained some momentum going into this game after recently winning their first game 33-13 versus Jefferson City where the Spartans dominated the fourth quarter.
In the first quarter of the game versus Ft. Zumwalt West Battle started off slow going down 10-0 at the end of the first quarter and ten more points early in the second quarter making the score 20-0. Battle responded with an 80-yard touchdown drive led by the run game, junior Tyler Mays moved the offense to the 39-yard line with a 20-yard rush and senior Chris Brown moved the offense all the way to the 10-yard line with a 27-yard rush and a 1-yard touchdown rush from senior Chris Brown capped off the scoring drive which made the score 20-7. Ft. Zumwalt West extended their lead to 23-7 with a field goal going into halftime.
Battle scored first after halftime with a 6-yard passing touchdown from junior quarterback Kendle Wilkerson to senior tight end Sylvoni Sanders. Which made the score 23-13 after the Spartans failed the 2-point conversion. Ft. Zumwalt West scored two more touchdowns at the end of the third quarter and a field goal at the beginning of the fourth quarter extending their lead to 40-13. Junior Kendle Wilkerson threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to junior Edgerrin Gordon to make the score 40-19 which ended up being the final score ending Battle’s season After the loss Battle’s final record in 2024 fell to 1-9.
