The new semester brings a new line of rehearsals to Battle Performing Arts. The new play put on by the theater is Love/Sick written by John Cariani. The play follows a series of nine different relationships on a Friday night focusing on the highs and lows of love. The play follows an unromantic and comedic tone. The play starts with the beginning of a relationship and finishes in chronological order, describing how a relationship would play out.
“I am so excited about the play. It is my first time directing and it’s a really fun opportunity and I have learned so much,” said senior director Nadia Ozanich. Ozanich has been a part of the Battle Theater Department all four years. Her favorite play that she has done was You Can’t Take It With You during her freshman year. “I loved my freshman year play but I think this experience might top it,” said Ozanich.
Senior Juliette Blauvelt plays two characters in the play. Her first character is Maddie in the scene “chicken” and Liz in the scene “sick of this.”
“I like Maddie because her character is just really angry during the whole thing. She’s very funny and very sarcastic where I get to be sassy with her. Liz is a really good character because in my head, she represents the relationships that my parents have and the small fights and she’s really fun to play even though she is tough,” said Blauvelt. Much of the play follows diverse and complex relationships with emotional ties but keeps it in a comedic tone.
“Love/Sick is very good for the soul in the aspect of, like, you’re watching the complexities of relationships play out on stage, and it’s really emotional but also very funny. It shows the two sides of relationships,” said Blauvelt.
The students have worked diligently on Love/Sick and are looking forward to performing in front of an audience. This year the play is on February 13 through 15. Tickets for the play are $5 for CPS students and staff along with senior citizens. Children under the age of five are free and tickets for adults are $7.
