Battle High School boys soccer started off on a good note, leading their district in the number one seed, according to MSHSAA.
Boys soccer kicked their season off to a 8-0 win against Osage. Battle has a substantial amount of both young and older talent. ‘’We have lost a bunch of seniors, We have a younger squad this year,” sophomore midfielder Benjamin “Benny” Ellebracht said, “Our district is really good, so I’m not sure we’ll make it to state, but we definitely have a chance to do something special.’’

Although Battle has younger talent, they are still dominant in their district. Benjamin Ellebracht, Gustave Baraka and Jaedon Morgan have all played soccer for the majority of their lives.
Even after losing several seniors at the end of last year, Battle has improved their competitiveness. Last year Capital City beat Battle by five points, but this year Battle took them into overtime and only lost by one goal. Gustave Baraka, a sophomore who plays forward and defender said “to keep up the good progress we need to try to have a better mentality.”
Battle has always had a healthy rivalry with Hickman High School in sports such as football, baseball and soccer. Junior goalkeeper Jaedon Morgan said, “100% there are plans to keep up the good progress. […] I wanna beat Hickman.” The team has started off on a good note, but they do not want to get ahead of themselves. They want to play one game at a time. “We need to focus on winning a district game before thinking about state because we have never won a district game,” Morgan said.
