Student of the Month: Leland Harvey
Leland Harvey, who goes by Tre, towers in the halls with his height. His happy and humorous spirit is contagious even when you don’t know him. As he is kind to everyone, he is more than deserving for the junior “Student of the Month” award. “When I found out I had received the award I was called down to Mr. Sirna’s office and thought I had gotten a referral,” he laughs, “but then he told me I was the junior for Student of the Month and I was pretty happy about it. I joked with him saying Battle has an employee of the month kind of award now.” Although his life is devoted to basketball, Tre says his grades are great and that he has been able to balance school and sports much better this year. He’s ecstatic for the upcoming season that’s about to begin this month. He hopes to do well along with his team, and says this year should be even better than last year. When asked to describe himself in three words as others would see him, he smiles and states; “tall, funny, happy. I believe that’s why I got the award, I’m nice to everyone, and give off a good vibe at all times.” Tre has given a different kind of perspective on Student of the Month; not all the time is it based on only grades, which is what most students believe. He shows what it’s like to obtain the pristine image of a student-athlete here at Battle.
