In Columbia Public Schools, spring break is typically the last full week in March. This year, spring break lasted from March 23 to March 27. Many students and staff go to another country, state or city while on spring break. People need a break from school. Other students and teachers get caught up with work, planning for the future, getting a new look or trying to get a job.
Ms. Amy Jammeh is an English Learner teacher at Battle, and her plans for break were going to Cancun, Mexico.
“I’m going to relax and be by the beach, by the pool and just enjoy Mexico with my mom and besties, and I need to just kind of rest and be in warm weather,” Ms. Jammeh said.
This brings many opportunities for students to take their permit test or learn how to drive, get a job, get caught up with missing work just hang out with friends, and visit family. Josephine Ameh is a junior.
“My plans for spring break are hanging out with my friends and mainly just catching up on some work that is due,” Ameh said.
This spring break is worth it to many people like Mrs. Sarah Tornez, Stunt and Cheerleader Coach and an English Learner teacher..
“We gotta do the things that we don’t have time for during other times like taking my dog to the vet and helping my daughter find a car, ” Ms.Tornez said.
Spring break is the first taste of summer before the end of the year, which inspires students to get ready to finish school. The last day of classes is on May 21.
