Here is advice from other ninth graders.
Once freshmen get to Battle, they’re going to love it. The teachers at Battle are nice and will guide students through the whole year. However some students do things they shouldn’t and lose their relationships with their teachers. Here’s some advice that’s going to help freshmen through the year to focus on their work and have a smooth freshman year.
My top tip is to not do stuff you know you are not supposed to be doing, such as skipping class. It will mess up your attendance. Don’t get suspended. Get a good night’s rest, so you don’t sleep in class. Stay awake. School has the potential to get you a better job and a better future.
Try to get as many good grades as possible to open up more choices of classes. Classes will become harder throughout the year, so try not to let your work stack up.
Having a small circle of friends is important because sometimes having too many causes grades to slip because many of them are gonna have a different mindset like skipping or not wanting to do work or cheating on a test.
A few other freshmen have advice for their incoming peers:
“Stay on it with your grades. Don’t be the one who just out fighting, and stay on track,” Ka’Lajon Peal said.
Ka’Lajon credits his mother for his successful freshman year. “I love my mom for what she does for me. I wouldn’t have gotten this far into sports without her.” Ka’Lajon said.
“Don’t get into fights, stay out of drama. Have a small circle. Do as many sports as you can,” MacKenzie Chanay said.
“Be yourself, and find a friend group that’s nice and won’t talk behind your back. Focus on getting your grades up instead of playing around. Be cool with everyone, and everyone will be cool with you,” Vashun Lewis said.
All of the freshmen I interviewed mostly cared about getting their grades up and wanting to graduate, which is the most important part of a high school experience, especially because you get to enjoy the freedom as you finish an important part of your education. .
