Blue Springs South stunted Battles state hopes, winning 71-48 in the District Championship game March 10. Despite Battle scoring the highest against the Jaguars in the entirety of the district tournament. The Spartans had a difficult time keeping the ball in possession tallying a total of 22 turnovers with an abysmal turnover percentage of 26.7% overall with the worst of it peaking during the 3rd quarter with the Spartans turning the ball over 46.6% of the time. The Spartans didn’t just struggle with keeping the ball though. The team shot a subpar 37.9eFG% with the worst quarter being the 2nd where the Spartans shot 3/16, where Battle went 1/8 from inside the 3-point line and 2/5 from outside the line.
It wasn’t all bad for the Spartans however. They team was rebounding well with an absurd 48.7% offensive rebound rate and a 71% defensive rebound rate. The offensive rebounding effort by the Spartans almost caused the number of offensive and defensive rebound to be the same with 19 and 22 while also allowing the team to score 11 points of the second chance efforts which was 22.9% of the Spartans final tally. They also performed well enough on the defensive end totaling 6 pass deflections, 4 steals, and 6 blocks leading to them scoring 6 points off turnovers. The defensive effort began to fall off after the 3rd quarter with the Spartans only tallying one steal and one block to their five fouls in the 4th quarter letting the Jaguars to seal the championship.
